What a joy to wake up to this old hymn this morning! I love this old song. I remember growing up and hearing it sung by church choirs and congregations. It was one of those songs, the congregation would simply "rare back" and "let it go" as it was sung. Congregations for the most part don't seem to sing like that any more. (We are all so much more reserved. LOL)
We sing about God's Grace so often and in so many songs. I believe it was just this past Wednesday night when we sang, "Grace, Grace, God's Grace". It is not unusual to sing at least one song every Sunday morning that references God's Grace. I wonder how many times, "Amazing Grace" has been sung?
God's Grace is referred to so often throughout the scriptures. Just the other Sunday night, the pastor referenced 2 Corinthians 12:9, "And he said unto me, My Grace is sufficient for thee: for strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." Grace is defined as the unmerited or underserved favor of God. While mercy is not giving us what we deserve, grace is giving us what we don't deserve. He gives us grace for every need. In Christ we receive grace upon grace, upon grace. There is enough of God's Grace to meet all our needs, always!
"Grace For Every Need" was written by John M. Henson and published in 1936. My quick research shows it was published in only 4 hymnals but they must have been the most popular songbooks in the churches I attended because I heard it sung often. I know you have learned that I love the old hymns and love hearing them sung today. I'm glad there are several groups that will periodically find one of these old hymns and record it.
The first link is form a more recent Greater Vision recording. The second link is from a 1963 recording of The Statesman Quartet. I thought since I mentioned yesterday the "older style" quartet singing. I would post this song from one of the best.
I pray you will have a blessed Sunday and enjoy God's Grace on your life. See you in church!
