I am not a very big movie person. I watch movies from time to time but rarely remember much about them within a few minutes after watching. LOL Last night, I was watching TV and the commentators were discussing "essential" and "non-essential" workers. One of the commentators said could you imagine the personal impact of being called "non-essential". He brought up the movie "It's A Wonderful Life" and how George Bailey had given up on his life and feeling "non-essential". But his guardian angel showed him how much better Bedford Falls and his family was as a result of George being born and the wonderful impact he had on everyone's life. I thought about that quite a while and started thinking, we are all born to be "essential" and that is God's plan for us. I believe He wants us all to make a difference in other people's lives and in our communities by serving Him.
This morning I woke to a song I do not recall hearing in years. It was recorded by The Inspirations in 1986 on their "Going Home For Christmas" album. Can you imagine being a shepherd in a field one night, seeing a brilliant light and an angel saying to you, "Fear not for on this night I bring you Good News, the Son of God is born this day!"? The song asks us today, just as the angels, to lift our voices high and sing the "Good News" to everyone. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, born of a virgin, lived a perfect, sinless life, died for our sins and rose to go to His Father. Now that is "Good News" for all of us and there is no denying or debate, Jesus is "essential" to our lives, our salvation and for everlasting life.
This has been a difficult year in so many ways, but as we near Christmas Day, I hope we can and will all celebrate the birth of our Savior and pray we are able to share the "Good News" with others.
I hope you will enjoy hearing the song "Good News" this morning!
