It's pretty awesome to wake up to this amazing song, at a time we need to recognize that during good times or difficult times, we have someone who walks with us everywhere, by night and by day, to guide our footsteps because He loves you and me!
I went to bed last night prayerful, that maybe it appeared the protests and civil unrest had become more peaceful and less violent only to wake up to learn after nightfall once again, some were just as destructive and chaotic. I wake up to hear there's a topical storm that could become a hurricane and make landfall on the Gulf coast by Monday. We are still in a pandemic that has kept us from attending church services for the past forever it seems. We have fires and earthquakes that devastate so much of our land. But these things are not new. I remember so many of these things going on when I was just a kid. I also seem to remember reading somewhere about these things happening.... oh yes, it was in our Holy Scriptures.
I love people and it saddens me and burdens my heart, to see the pain and suffering so many are going through. I miss the social interaction with people. I never thought I would say this but thank goodness for Facebook. If it wasn't for FB I would not have a social life at all. LOL I miss shaking hands. Over the past several days, I have had to conduct some business, met several new people and it seems so odd, strange, peculiar, weird not to shake hands at the introduction or upon leaving. Seems like something is left undone. I even had the pleasure of stopping by the church yesterday to pick up my new Sunday School materials and the preacher didn't even shake my hand. LOL (If any of you remember the old fun Kingsmen's song "Excuses" you will understand that comment. LOL) I can not explain how good it made be feel to walk into the church offices again and visit briefly with Brother John, Brother Noah, Brother Roger, Miss Sandy and Miss Melinda. (Even if he didn't shake my hand. LOL)
I'm so glad "God Walks The Dark Hills" with us! When I hear this song, I always think of Vestal Goodman and I suspect any of you who love gospel music will think of her also. But this song was first recorded by a part-time singing group. The Hallelujah Minstrels on their first album. Audra Czarnikow wrote this song in the mid 60's. The group did not have the funds to record their album but Ms. Czarnikow agreed to pay the costs if they would include her song "God Walks The Dark Hills" as one of the songs. Sometime in the later 60's, The Hallelujah Minstrels had the opportunity to share the stage during a singing with The Goodmans and the rest is history. The Goodmans started singing the song, recorded it and it became one of their most loved and it was sung the remainder of their careers as well as with many other groups.
I love the way God works and even as I believer I am amazed. Shortly after, The Hallelujah Minstrels recorded, "God Walks The Dark Hills", one of the group's member's 10 year old son was diagnosed with cancer and no hope of survival. This song helped to become their strength as they drove the long roads back and forth to St. Jude's hospital. Over the years, I have heard other testimonials of how God has used this song to minister, giving peace and comfort during times of need.
As I started this message before I started rambling, I'm glad to know, "God Walks The Dark Hills". If there is every a time we need someone to guide our footsteps. it's today. I pray you will be blessed today hearing this beautiful old song!
