Recently, on the front of the church newsletter or order of worship program were the words, "The God on the Mountain Is The Same God In The Valley". I was immediately reminded of the first time I heard this song.
It was probably around 1988 or 1989, I was driving north on GA-400 headed home after a day at the office and "God On The Mountain" came on the radio. I loved what I heard and turned the sound up louder. When the song finished, I was hoping they would say who was singing but they didn't. When I got home, I was determined to find out more about this song. (Sure wish we had the internet back then. LOL) I don't recall how I learned, but I believe I called Mr. Darby at Circle K Grocery in Ball Ground, GA as he was my gospel music expert. I not only learned about the song but I learned about The McKameys and enjoyed listening to them until their retirement last year.
"God On The Mountain" was written by Tracy Dartt in 1975 during a time of great difficulty. It is a beautiful story if you are interested in reading. (I will post a link). It was 13 years later when it was recorded by the McKameys. Almost immediately the song rose to #10 on the Singing News charts and a short time later became the #1 gospel song and remained in that spot for 5 straight months. It has been recorded by many and as the article states, "This simple little song, comprised of 72 words and 4 chords, has been an encouragement to thousands of people."
Since I woke up to the McKameys, I will post a video link of them singing this great song at the National Quartet Convention in 2015, I hope you will enjoy!
