Last night as I was watching the evening news (well I remember when it use to be the evening news, now it's "news" all day long) I was reminded of the old children's toy "Etch A Sketch". Remember? After you played with it you turned it up side down, shook it and everything you had done was erased. I sometimes feel, there's a group of people who are trying to turn our world upside down, shake it up and make all of our past disappear. But just as with the "Etch A Sketch" even though my drawing was no longer there, I still remember what was there.
What happened to "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do To You'? This is the "Golden Rule" I was taught and learned early in my life. How about loving one another? What happened to respect, trust, tolerance? There's a big old wedge being driven deeper and deeper into our hearts, dividing mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, friends, virtually all of us and I know who is hitting that wedge with his big sledgehammer. Satan sees an opening and he is using his power to divide and sow his evil all over this land.
I listen to "enlightened" people, leaders and politicians and they all have their "solutions'. But the craziness in our world is not new and the solutions I hear are often the same old things tried before with the same results. Now as I have often said, I'm not real smart but it seems to me, that most of the problems we face now and in the past have to do more with our hearts than anything else. And the solutions being proposed have very little if anything to do with our hearts. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." Until and unless we turn our hearts to God, we will continue to face this "craziness" in our world. I so often think I can "do this" but without God I am not able to do anything.
I woke up to a reminder of God's ultimate authority and power. "God Is Still On His Throne" is one of my favorite songs. When I woke to this song on December 16th last year, it was the song that made me finally realized that perhaps I should try to write and share my song each morning. I hope it will be a blessing to you on this beautiful day the Lord has given us!
