God Bless America

I am proud to wake up this morning and living in our great country. I guess I watched to much "news" yesterday as when I went to bed last night I felt a little uneasiness and a burden for our country. But it wasn't long, the song came to my mind "God Is Still On His Throne" and before I knew it, I was asleep and slept peacefully all night.

Today is Election Day and ends what we now call an "election season". Doesn't it seem as if we start voting again just as soon as an election ends? I remember the first time I voted. It was at the Pine Mountain Community Center. I stood in a long line outside in a drizzle for hours for the privilege of casting my vote for president and others who I wanted to be in leadership. This year, I did not stand in a very long line as I voted early. I still felt just as proud to cast my vote, with the same convictions I had so many years ago with my first vote. But things just seem so different now.

We seem so divided where difference in opinions is no longer celebrated and these differences are no longer discussed but met with intolerance and even hate. I believe, for the most part these extreme opinions on both sides of the discussions are on the "fringe" of America and the majority of Americans are still true to our values and the beliefs our country was founded. Unfortunately over the years, the fringe has been growing larger. Now we see some of our cities being "boarded" up to protect from these "fringe" groups who are not happy with whatever they are unhappy about. This only creates more division, chaos and destruction.

I saw a quote from Rev. Billy Graham the other day, "If America ever needed God it's now." I don't know when he said these words but if he was alive today, I suspect he would say them with even greater conviction. I saw another quote by President Ronald Reagan that said, "If we ever forget we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." Many of our former government and religious leaders understood that God must be the foundation of our lives and country. Today, God is secondary (and I'm being generous in giving them credit for making God secondary). We have taken Him out of our schools. We want to move the reference in our Pledge of Allegiance. There's a move to take our National motto "In God We Trust" off our currency. We are no longer allowed to pray before a sporting event and I could go on and on. Rev. Graham and President Reagan's words are proving to be so true.

Millions have already voted and millions more will vote today. I pray that we have all used our Bibles and prayer to help guide our voting decisions. I long for the days, when we all stood together, shoulder to shoulder, with pride and perhaps a tear in our eye and sang "God Bless America".

I think this is the most quoted scripture, I have seen and heard over the past several months.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

God is still on His throne! He is control! I believe His word!

As we go through "voting day" and the days to come, I pray we will once again be able to stand together and sing together, "God Bless America" proudly and proclaim His name.
