As I woke this morning to "Do You Know My Jesus?", I could not imagine that I hadn't been awaken by this old song before. So I scrolled back through the 200+ previous blog posts. I didn't see it but I sure enjoyed reading the titles of so many songs that have meant so much to me and others. This morning, I'm delighted to add one more to the list.
I remember hearing "Do You Know" and singing it growing up from my childhood and through my teenage days. To me it is such a sweet song with very meaningful lyrics. The words were written in 1956 by W. F. (Bill) Lackey and the music added in 1957 by V. B. (Vep) Ellis. I believe it was made popular by the country singer Skeeter Davis but also sang often by George Beverly Shea.
Last night, I went to bed prayerful and with a burdened heart. It had kind of been one of "those days". I talked with several friends and the issues we face with this old virus, the sickness or challenges they are facing and simply the "disconnect" we all feel. I learned that it appears one of my friends is about to have to say good bye to her sweet Dad. But even in this time of sorrow, she is rejoicing to know, her Dad knows my Jesus. A couple of weeks ago, she shared with me a precious conversation they had. How sweet it is that while she is not permitted to spend time with him in his final hours, holding his hand, with hugs and more precious conversations, she knows that our Jesus loves us and will abide with us until the end. It's always hard to say good bye but it's much easier when we know there is a Heavenly home that awaits. I know so many individuals and families are in need of prayer and I hope you will remember this sweet family at this time also.
