Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary

After an early morning doctor's visit and a trip to Auburn and back, I'm finally in my chair and eager to share the song I started my day with! "Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary" is a special song to me as it is one of the very first songs I learned with the boy's quartet at our church. Ms. Wade formed our group one Sunday evening at youth choir practice. During practice, she said I want to see David, David, Bob and Gary immediately after practice. I thought, what have we done now? (LOL) It became a very unexpected surprise when she said she thought it would be good for us to try to sing a few songs as a quartet. As I recall, David S was 14, David W and I were 13 and Bob H was 12. Not that the age really matters, but as I mentioned in an earlier post we had a very special youth group at our church. But for me it became even more special when Ms. Wade had the confidence in the 4 of us that we could sing together. And we did sing and sing often at our church, other churches and a few auditoriums over the next 4 or 5 years. What a special time and I could go on and on talking about those amazing times and experiences. But Ms. Wade chose "Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary" as one our first 4 or 5 songs we learned and we sang it as one of our primary songs every time we were asked to sing.

I continue to be amazed with the songs God wakes me up with each morning! I can not recall the last time I heard "Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary". Perhaps it has been recently and my poor memory is showing, but unfortunately, I don't think it is sung as much as it used to be (or should be). This song was written in 1952 by John Moore, a Baptist pastor and evangelist. Of the many songs he wrote, "Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary" is probably regarded as his most popular. It certainly is popular with me today and brings back the great memories of my opportunity to sing with these guys and share God's Word through song as a teenager and my post today.

I hope this selection will be a blessing to you!
