I love Christmas! Perhaps this year, Christmas has seemed a little more special. I'm not sure why. Maybe because some of the rushing around that often goes with this time of year has not happened. I've spent much more time in my chair, enjoying Christmas music and the decorations and focusing more and more on the true meaning of Christmas!
Yesterday, was a beautiful day even though it was cold and rainy. I had the opportunity to have a delicious and magical lunch with special friends. Lunch would have been magical and special, even if it had been at a Burger King (no disrespect to Burger King intended) but our lunch was in a beautifully Christmas decorated historical mansion. After lunch we toured this amazing house that was built in 1926. The house alone would have been amazing to see but each room was decorated with trees and all kind of Christmas decorations. There is no way I can describe it. But one thing I was taken by was the number of Nativity Scenes throughout the house. There was no way to look at each one without thinking about, it was that night, our Savior was born and we were given the greatest gift of all! At this time of the year, when we celebrate the "Birthday Of A King", I'm glad I was able to enjoy the day yesterday with these special friends!
I'm a little late this morning with my post and a little embarrassed as to why. I woke up a little earlier than normal to a song, that I knew but just could not quite remember. I could hear the music, some of the words, but my memory was challenged to make it out to in order to remember the title. (Has this ever happened to you?) This old song was part of our choir's Christmas music last year or year before, I think.
"Birthday Of A King" was written by William Harold Neidlinger in the late 1800's. In 1896, one of his best known works, "Small Songs For Small Children" songbook fueled his passion for writing songs and teaching young children music. While he is well know for many of his songs, I'm glad he wrote "Birthday Of A King" and I woke to it this morning!
I hope you will enjoy hearing The Talleys singing this great old song this morning! I pray you will have an great Thursday!
