Happy Easter!!! The tomb is empty! I look forward to soon being able to be with my church family, sharing and rejoicing that we serve a risen Savior!!!
I have written many times about the joy God's creation brings me. I love waking up early, seeing the darkness turn to day. I think I have enjoyed this spring more than ever. Perhaps, because I have had to slow down and I haven't had much to do but watch the trees turn green, the plants emerge from the ground, the flowers begin to bud and flower. The birds, flying around, singing like I've never heard them. (Maybe I just have not been listening too close before.)
I have spent a lot of time in my yard, especially this weekend! Now I'm not a master gardener like Brother Jim. My yard is not gorgeously blooming like Ms. Mildred's. I don't have the beautiful plants as Ms. Sherry. I don't have fruit trees, blueberries and bees (I do have a few bees and wasps but that's not what I meant) as Brother John. (I have enjoyed social media and love the beautiful pictures so many of you have shared.) But I enjoy my yard and try to make it as pretty as possible.
Yesterday, I put out a couple of new birdfeeders and hung a new Bluebird box. I was going to replace the hanging ferns on the front porch with flowering baskets but to my surprise, I noticed a bird had already made her nest and laid 4 little eggs in one of the baskets so the fern baskets are still hanging as they were. I can't believe the number of blooms on my Stella D'oros (is that spelled right?) daylilies. But I'm most proud of my rose bush (yes that's singular). It is in it's second or third year and it's blooming like crazy. That makes me so happy as I have never had very much success with roses. I remember in the late 70's, I lived in Cartersville, GA and I had a yellow rose vine on my mailbox post. It was beautiful. The mailman i don't think cared for it much but it was gorgeous, completely covered in small yellow roses. But that's the last time, I remember ever having pretty roses until now. I hope this one rose bush I have now will continue to bloom and and be beautiful all summer (gardeners, I'm open to all recommendations. lol)
As I was enjoying my roses, I couldn't help (as I always do) think about roses and how something so beautiful is surrounded by such painful thorns. I mean some rose bushes have thorns so hard and sharp they will absolutely rip your skin. And other rose bushes have small little thorns that are just aggravating when you touch them. But in the midst of the bad, there blooms a most beautiful flower. Perhaps my attention to my one little rose bush yesterday, is the reason for my song this morning.
"Rose Among The Thorns" was first recorded by The Inspirations in about 1977. I have enjoyed hearing them sing this song for years, but I do not recall hearing it recently. I hope you will enjoy hearing the song I woke up to this morning!
