E.M Barlett wrote many songs and contributed tremendously to gospel music over the years. Many of his songs are published in many of our hymnals and we still sing them today. Written in 1939, I believe "Victory In Jesus, was the final song by E.M. Barlett. While it may have been the last song he wrote, it may be the best known, most loved and most sung of all. I remember the congregation singing "Victory In Jesus" just a couple of Wednesday nights ago.
I love thinking about when I was growing up and hearing page 120 called in the Redback Hymnal. The words of the songs, enthusiastically remind us of our personal salvation from the beginning of our acceptance of Christ to our ultimate heavenly reward. There is "Victory In Jesus" and I love hearing and singing this amazing song!
"I heard an old, old story, How a Savior came from glory, How He gave His life on Calvary To save a wretch like me; I heard about His groaning, Of His precious blood's atoning, Then I repented of my sins And won the victory. O victory in Jesus, My Savior, forever. He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him, He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood. I heard about His healing, Of His cleansing pow'r revealing. How He made the lame to walk again And caused the blind to see; And then I cried, "Dear Jesus, Come and heal my broken spirit," And somehow Jesus came and bro't To me the victory. I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory. And I heard about the streets of gold Beyond the crystal sea; About the angels singing, And the old redemption story, And some sweet day I'll sing up there The song of victory."
I hope you have a great Wednesday and we will see you at prayer meeting tonight. Maybe we will sing "Victory In Jesus" and then some sweet day we'll sing up there the song of victory!
